Employee Spotlight: Meet Paralegal Melanie Hughes

We sat down with Melanie to chat about what her role is at the firm, what drew her to Minc Law originally, what she enjoys doing outside of work, and more!

Meet Melanie: Mother, Wife, & Passionate Legal Professional

Melanie was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Kent State University and Lakeland Community College. Prior to working at Minc Law, she worked for an insurance defense firm and as a litigation paralegal at a worker’s compensation law firm.

She brings over ten years of legal experience as an organized, meticulous paralegal. She is an empathetic professional who truly listens to each client and makes them feel safe and comfortable as they share details of their internet-related matters in a judgment-free zone.

Melanie assists attorneys with drafting, proofreading, and finalizing documents, preserving evidence, and is a contributing author for the firm’s resource center and YouTube videos.

When not in the office, Melanie enjoys spending time with her two daughters, husband (who she has been married to for over ten years), and two dogs, and reading. Melanie is an avid reader who aims to read upwards of 50 novels each year and is a member of a monthly book club.

What Do You Do Here At Minc Law?

As a paralegal, my overall job is to make the attorneys’ lives easier. I assist them with their caseloads, draft documents including subpoenas and motions, file documents with the court, preserve evidence for our case files, handle the attorneys’ calendars, and schedule appointments. Whatever the attorneys need, I’m their go-to person.

I also help the intake team with overflow and when someone is out. I also help advise the intake team by answering questions and assisting with qualifying incoming leads.

I’m also a contributor to our firm’s YouTube channel and online resource center. I create content for our website by writing blogs and filming videos for our firm’s YouTube channel to help educate the public about Internet defamation and content removal issues among other topics.

What Would You Do For a Career If You Weren’t a Paralegal?

If I wasn’t a paralegal, I would be a stay-at-home mom. I think family is important and raising kids is an underappreciated job in today’s world.

I love being with my kids and I think that being a stay-at-home parent is one of the most important jobs a person can have.

What is Something Most People Don’t Know About You?

Something that most people don’t know about me is that I love to sing. Music and singing have both been a big part of my life and I love to sing any chance I get. I love to sing in the car with my kids and at home while cooking or cleaning my house.

I also enjoy listening to “true-crime” podcasts. I find them very interesting and I think it’s great that there are people out there who are bringing attention to unsolved crimes and missing persons.

What Drew You to Minc Law Originally?

I was originally drawn to Minc Law because of the type of work they do here. Internet defamation, online privacy, and content removal is such a unique area of law and is becoming an issue for so many people with the growth of social media and the Internet in general.

I find what we do so interesting and it is such a great feeling to be here at work every day and know that you are helping people. It’s a great feeling knowing that we are making a difference in our clients’ lives.

There’s no greater feeling than having a client tell you that you changed their lives for the better.

Which One Word Would Your Colleagues Use to Describe You?

I think my colleagues would describe me as ‘organized’. I pay a lot of attention to detail and am very organized in my work.

I’ve always been an organized person, even as a child, my parents could always count on me to have it together. I think being organized is a very important quality when working in the legal field.

What is Your Favorite Part About Working at Minc Law?

My favorite part about working at Minc Law is the team here and my coworkers. We have such a dynamic and unique team that works well together. Everyone here has such a strong passion for what they do and it feels great to collaborate together and help our clients.

I really enjoy coming to work every day and the team we have assembled here has a lot to do with that.
